The pictures were so good and I must admit quite intimidating. And the pictures are amazing. More on story and background than on technical stuff.

If you already know to look round, take in the details and know that the small stuff matters this book is a good review. I can tell you this, though. Because in a frenetically moving world, it is still.

I received my copy the other day from Amazon boxed and in top notch shape. The cover picture for this is probably my least favorite one from the collection.

I also love that he tells us how the photos were made focusing on specific lighting techniques. Really enjoying the blog, too. But If you are just a photographer with a little point and shoot camera and you want to learn how to take professional pics, you will be totally overwhelmed. I have flipped through this book over and over, studying the technical aspects and soaking up the inspiration.

There weren’t as many techniques related to that! How to fall hopelessly in love with your flash, and finally start taking the type of images you bought it for in the first place. I am writing a blog post this week about my favourite photography books and this is right at the top of the list. For all of the times I’ve looked at a great image and figured it was far too complicated for me to imitate armed with just my camera and, when I’m lucky, an external flash unitMcNally shows that it can be done AND that it can be done without necessarily emptying the bank account.
